Ivyside Dance Ensemble (IDE) is Penn State Altoona's resident student dance company, performing each semester at the Kuhn Wolf Theatre at the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.
IDE performs a variety of concert genres, including ballet, jazz, tap, modern, hip hop, and international styles. Choreography is created by faculty, guest artists, and senior students.
Students in the company receive academic credit for their participation, through DANCE 285 and DANCE 485. Typically, the company consists of 12 – 20 dancers.
Auditions for the company take place in the second week of classes in the fall semester (for the academic year) and in the last week of classes in the fall (for the spring). Once students are invited to join the company they are not required to re-audition, as long as they remain in good academic standing. In addition to performing, students participate in master classes, attend professional performances, and take a yearly trip to New York City.
