Program Description

This eight-day walking-intensive experience in London will allow students to visit numerous British literary and historical sites and attend a live performance at the world-renowned Globe Theater.

Course Description

Students will experience life in London while increasing their knowledge of British literature, culture, and history in general. They will also be able to see and experience the British contributions to history.

Students will be responsible for the following:

  • A one-credit study abroad course (either ENGL 297 or 499 or HIST 199, 399, or 499)
  • Attending and participating in all scheduled activities, tours, and other experiences
  • Fully participating in all classroom discussions
  • Writing a short final paper about their experience upon their return to the U.S.
  • Any other assignments as listed in the syllabus

Tentative Total Program Costs: $3,000–$3,300
Costs are subject to change depending on a number of participants and current travel rates.

In addition, costs are subject to various travel awards/grants applied for and possibly received.

Program Leaders

This program is led by Dr. Laura Rotunno and Dr. Doug Page. Both have led groups of students to London in previous years.

Dr. Rotunno, [email protected], is an associate professor of English and also the Honors Coordinator for Penn State Altoona. She continues to conduct extensive research on British Literature.

Dr. Page, [email protected], is a teaching professor of history and the history program coordinator. He specializes in British history.
